The story begins with a cinematic opening that evokes an expectation of an epic saga about to unfold, and it does not disappoint! The first scene is captivating, even though heart breaking too. I developed quite an overwhelming array of emotions and couldn’t help feel protective and attached to Tirzah from the beginning. I had to know more about her journey.
The story stands out with an original plot, and above all else, diverse characters and themes. It explores distinctive subject matters while pushing boundaries, but weaves in traditional aspects too, such as coming of age, betrayal and self-discovery.
The author has created an extraordinary world that is so well defined; it feels like a very real place and time. The narrative is delivered with skilful prose, vivid imagery and immersive dialogue. I can only imagine the work that goes into crafting such an intricate fantasy world and storyline, but A.E. Bross does it seamlessly here with The Roots that Clutch.
It was a highly entertaining read and I am excited to visit this world again with the next.
